In 1995 Caprimond was elected as an elite stallion at the age of 10, the youngest sire ever to be awarded with this title, and in 1998 Caprimond was proclaimed Trakehner Stallion of the Year. In 2002 Theresa Wahler, then only 14 years old, won her first PSG on Caprimond. 10-year-old Christoph Wahler, rode Caprimond at several stallion shows and showed all the Grand Prix movements, even a piaffe pirouette. Last season Caprimond was still successfully competing at Grand Prix with the then 16 year old Theresa Wahler. Caprimond is a true upgrading sire and the best proven sire of type in Trakehner breeding. In 1996 Caprimond received the rare distinction as being one of only a few foreign stallions to be admitted to the French dressage horse breeding program “Plus Dressage” of the French Breeders association Selle Francaise.
Caprimond's offspring dominate the riding horse auctions, consistently reaching top prices. He has produced many approved sons, several of whom have been awarded the highest scores for rideability in their performance test. Caprimond’s most distinguished son is Hohenstein who has already presented a number of licensed sons (for example he is the sire of His Highness and grandsire of Herzensdieb) and is a successful Grand Prix dressage horse. Hohenstein has risen to be one of the most sought after stallions in Germany, and was 2002 Trakener Stallion of the Year.
Caprimond has also sired many first class premium mares. He presented the best German 3 year old mare Donamarchen II at the Federal Mare Show who was also awarded Trakehner Mare of the Year in 1994, and along with her full sister Donamarchen was in addition awarded the prized Federal Champion Family. Caprimond is valued in particular for siring talented, rideable offspring with beautiful heads and necks, and may be considered as a type useful for refinement. Ever since the first Hanoverian stallion yearbook appeared in 1999, Caprimond has headed the rankings based on type, a typical Trakehner "improver." His influence on his home breed is constantly rising: In 2003 18% of all stallions presented at the Trakehner grading carried Caprimond, in 2005 it was 32.7%.
